Welcome to CCLSC travel.
Travel arrangements in 2023/2024 season were disrupted by TV schedule changes, train strikes and roadworks, making group travel difficult. However regular travellers adapted well and sharing of travel arrangements through emails and WhatsApp travel chat proved beneficial.
With the disruptions likely to continue through 2024/2025 season there are no plans at present to reintroduce Group Booking. Updates will be given 0n Twitter, WhatsApp and in the monthly Newsletter.
If/when Group Travel is reintroduced make sure that you have renewed your membership (or joined) so you can book travel. If you need to book away tickets, click here.
Travel and pub meet up details for the following games:
Stoke City – Away – 10th August -12.30pm KO
With the kick off at 12.30 those arriving early should try the KingsWay (formerly the White Star) 63 Kings Way, Stoke on Trent ST4 IJB. It is a 10 minutes walk from the station and normally opens at noon but on previous visits opened early on match days. Convenient for the shuttle buses to the ground. Disappointing beer quality and food on previous visit in February 2024. It served Tim Taylor, Marstons Pedigree and Bass. Strictly no colours.
Mark White provided some info relating to parking. “Public car park next to our usual pub has some minor resurfacing going on, taking away 25-30 spaces from the regular 180+. But it’s not usually busy on Saturdays. An all day fee >4 hours is £5.20, takes coins but gives no change. Also takes card but couldn’t see a space for notes on the machine I used”
The Glebe, 35 Glebe Street, ST4 1HG a Joules pub which is passed on the way from the station to the bus shuttle is recommended after the game in small numbers. There had been very strict security here before games in the past.
Suggested trains from Euston to Stafford are the either 08.33 or 09.02. Rail replacement buses are in operation from Stafford to Stoke On Trent. We’ve been advised that it is one bus per train service so expect extra time to your journeys.
It is recommended that individuals get off the bus individually not showing colours, if they want to go towards the city centre. The Stoke police at the station in recent years have been very strict and not allowing away fans to turn right out of the station towards the town centre insisting they go to the designated away pub.
Bristol City – Away – 13th August KO 7.45pm
As train travel after the evening game is not practical. The pub recommended:
Before the Cup game – Merchant Arms, 5 Merchants Road, BS8 4PZ. It opens at 4pm. It is a 20 minute walk to the ground.
We have previously visited on several occasions – the last in October 2023
Gorge Best is usually one of three real ales. Food consisted of Cornish Pasties, sausage rolls, scotch eggs and pork pies.
Oxford United – Home, 16th August, 8pm KO
Members are planning to gather at the Gatehouse pub from 5pm, with taxis to the ground around 7pm. While the last train to Euston is at 11.34pm, members should consider planning their onward journeys.
Bristol City – Away, 24th August, 12.30pm KO
Before the league game the station is at least two miles from the ground and too far to walk. Taxi or the bus shuttle from the station approach (buses are limited has been mentioned on social media).
The Wetherspoons Knights Temple , 1 The Square BS1 6DG
Without colours might be the best for a quick beer for those arriving early and wanting a beer after the game.
Suggested trains to catch from London Paddington is 09.30am which arrives into Bristol Temple Meads at 11am. With the return journey at 4.30pm.
Norwich City – Home, 31st August 12.30pm KO
The suggested train to catch is 09.31am which gets into Coventry for 10.34am. The Gatehouse will be open before and after the game.
Further matches will be added in due course.
